Nursing Superintendent

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the total needs of patients in the unit and prepare planned nursing care. 
  • Demonstrate and supervise the nursing care of patients in the unit. 
  • Attend regular rounds in the unit with the medical and nursing personnel. 
  • Reviewing reports from In charges/ Staff Nurses regarding the nursing care of patients in each shift. 
  • Give counseling and health education to the patients and their attendants. 
  • Plan and arrange duty for nursing personnel posted under her. 
  • To ensure the availability of adequate nursing staff in all shifts. 
  • Maintain cleanliness of unit its annexes and environment.  
  • Interact with the engineering service department for proper upkeep of the unit. 
  • Keeping MS informed of the needs of the patient care areas and bringing to their notice any special problems. 
  • Guide the Staff Nurses to ensure supplies and equipments of different stores, and re-checking their use and care. 
  • Daily check of emergency and High-risk drugs, life saving equipments i.e. monitors, ventilators, defibrillators, suction machines, Crash carts, F. Doppler and O2 points etc., to ensure their proper functioning.

Staff Nurse (Min. 2 yrs experience)

  • Accountable for patient care in the assigned area/ward
  • Makes a complete assessment of all assigned patients on admission / at the beginning of the shift so as to plan the activities in order of priority while applying principles of safe patient care.
  • Provides complete Nursing care – periodic Vital recording, Bed making, Medication administrations, ECG, IV & Blood transfusions, personal requirements of the patient.
  • Maintains patients’ hygiene and health.
  • Practices infections controls measures to protect patient form acquiring or spreading infection. Demonstrates awareness of potential/actual risks of injection and modes of transmission.  Utilizes universal precautions in nursing practice.
  • Maintain continuity through clear and concise (verbal and written) communication.
  • Maintains required quantity of medicines and medical consumables in the ward.
  • Takes responsibility of caring for all equipments and furniture and other related items in the unit realizing the need for cost effective and safe nursing care.
  • Reports patient condition to appropriate personnel as required without delay.
  • Documents patient care in a manner that is clear, complete, and concise and in compliance with nursing documentation standards.
  • Undertakes Patient and Attendants education, utilizing appropriate resources and documents in collaboration with the Nurse patient Educator.
  • Participates actively in the unit-based and organizational quality management and/or quality improvement programs.
